Page No. : 75-77
ABSTRACT
Q fever has been documented as an important occupational hazard. Considering the occurrence among the small ruminants, its potential zoonotic nature and animal husbandry practices; it was decided to screen the individuals in close contact with goats. In the present study blood and serum samples from 12 goat farmworkers, in close contact with goats were included. The blood samples were subjected to DNA extraction followed by PCR and the serum samples subjected to ELISA. One sample was positive by PCR and 4 with ELISA. Of the 12 sera samples four were positive against Phase I antigen and three against Phase II antigen. Keywords: ELISA, Goat Owners, PCR, Q fever
