ABSTRACT

Overall, 947 pig carcasses were examined to study the incidence of porcine cysticercosis at private abattoir in various localities of Patna. Out of which 24 pig carcasses were found positive. The incidence of porcine cysticercosis in Patna was observed to be 2.53%. The study further revealed that maximum rate of infection was observed in the rainy season and declining trend of infection rate was recorded with the advancement of age. Males were found more susceptible towards this infection than females in present study. The habitat pattern and breed wise study indicated that indigenous desi-breed of pigs mostly reared in outdoor housing with scavenging feeding systems almost equally susceptible towards this infection, like cross-bred pigs. However, data analyzed indicated non-significant effect of month, age group, sex and pig breeds on the incidence of porcine cysticercosis in local pig population of Patna.
