Isolation of Pathogens from Raw Milk and Antimicrobial Susceptibility

ABSTRACT
A study was conducted in Patna, Bihar from July 2014 to March 2017 to assess pathogenic bacteria involved in mastitis of cow and to determine antimicrobial susceptibility pa" erns of the isolates. Raw milk samples collected aseptically from a total of 324 apparently healthy lactating cows from various dairy farms were subjected to California Mastitis Test (CMT) to ascertain subclinical mastitis. The CMT positive samples (n=169) were used for isolation of bacteria and 112 (66.27%) samples were found culture positive. Antibiotic sensitivity test by the disc diff usion method was used to test antibiotic susceptibility to 11 antibiotics, and the results were analysed using CLSI guidelines. Among 169 samples, the isolates revealed variable sensitivity and resistance to diff erent antibiotics. Keywords: Antimicrobials, ioslation, raw milk, resistance, susceptibility
