ABSTRACT
Campylobacter jejuni infection is one of the most widespread infectious diseases of the last century. The incidence and prevalence of campylobacteriosis have increased in both developed and developing countriesover the last 10 years. The incidence of campylobacteriosis is 1 in 4 causes of gastrointestinal disease in both developed and developing world. Poultry, a major reservoir, other domesticated animals (ca! le and pigs) and environmental sources (water, soil) play a vital role in the direct transmission of these organisms to humans. Thus, it is very important to realize the role of standardized biocontrol methods in poultry sector, which is a
principal source mediating Campylobacter transmission to humans. Strategic implementation of multifaceted biocontrol measures to reduce the transmission of this group of pathogens is paramount for public health.
Overall, campylobacteriosis is still one of the most important infectious diseases that is likely to challenge global health in the years to come.
