ABSTRACT

Salmonella Typhimurium is among the most common bacteria responsible for foodborne gastroenteritis. Outer membrane protein C (ompC) gene, identified in the Salmonella Typhimurium genome, was cloned and custom sequenced. Predicted amino acid sequences showed a protein of 378 amino acids and presence of a large number of antigenic regions, using the Jameson-Wolf method. Hence, it may act as good immunogen and can be tried as vaccine candidate. Homology search showed nearly complete homology (99-97%) with other Salmonella OmpC protein and with varying degree of homology with OMP genes of other bacteria.
