ABSTRACT

Brucellosis is a highly contagious disease responsible for abortion and reproductive failure in dairy animals. It is a disease of public health significance which needs to be controlled in animals for its control in human beings. The present study was conducted to assess the seroprevalence of B. abortus in the cattle population of Bihar, India. A total of 1218 serum samples were screened from different districts/regions of Bihar. Based on the present study, the prevalence of brucellosis in Bihar was recorded as 11.74% whereas the highest prevalence was recorded as 35.1% in Kaimur district (agroclimatic zone III) and it was nil (0%) in West Champaran (agroclimatic zone I) district of the state.
