Seroprevalence of Brucellosis in Small Ruminants and Humans of Anand District Gujarat

ABSTRACT

A total of 325 sera samples comprising 100 from goats, 100 from sheep, and 125 from human beings were collected from different area of Anand district. Human sera samples were collected from veterinary officer, para veterinarians, staff related with animal husbandry activities and patients of Karamsad Medical College with pyrexia of unknown origin. All the sera samples were subjected to RBPT, STAT, and I-ELISA while human samples further confirmed by special I-ELISA kit to detect IgG antibody. Among 200 sera samples of sheep and goats, 94 samples were found to be positive. Ninety three sera samples were positive by I-ELISA, 27 by RBPT while 16 by STAT. One RBPT positive goat serum sample was found to be negative by I-ELISA. Among humans, seroprevalence of brucellosis was 12% by I- ELISA and none of sample was positive by RBPT and STAT.
