ABSTRACT

The spillover of zoonotic pathogen are basically the infectious agents that are transmitted from animals to humans and poses a significant threat to global public health. Around 60 percent human pathogens are zoonotic in nature and many of them had an origin in wildlife and because of intermingling or destruction of forest ecosystem it get transmitted to human directly or through vector or intermediate animal/livestock host. There is need to study the mechanisms, drivers, and consequences of zoonotic spillover, with a focus on key pathogens, recent outbreaks, and strategies for prevention. By analyzing historical and contemporary data, we explore how ecological, biological, and sociocultural factors contribute to spillover events, emphasizing the importance of an integrated One Health approach. This review will try to document the major spillover zoonotic pathogens along with their origin, transmission cycles and the strategies for prevention and control.
