Characterization of Antigens and Serodiagnosis of Cysticercosis among Pigs
Page No. : 65-69
ABSTRACT
Pigs are the intermediate host for cysticercosis and play an important role in transmission of disease to human through consumption of infected undercooked pork. The present study was undertaken to determine the seroprevalence of porcine cysticercosis in Nagpur and Mumbai region. Blood samples of 1014 pigs were collected at the time of slaughter from Deonar abattoir, Mumbai and local markets at Nagpur to study the seroprevalence by Indirect ELISA employing whole cyst antigen (WCA) and cystic fluid antigen (CFA). Cysts were collected from one heavily infected and freshly slaughtered pig for preparation of WCA and CFA. The characterization with sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) of WCA & CFA revealed protein bands in the range of 17.81-146.22 kDa and 17.89-149.15kDa respectively. The antibodies detection against WCA and CFA using indirect ELISA was performed for 1014 pig serum samples. The overall sero-prevalence was 34.32% and 39.74% for WCA and CFA respectively and 33.13% for both the antigens. Keywords: CFA, ELISA, cysticercosis, serodiagnosis, WCA.
