Occurrence of AmpC Beta Lactamase (ACBL) Producing Escherichia coli Among Livestock and Poultry in Patna, Bihar
Page No. : 47-52
ABSTRACT
Occurrence of AmpC beta lactamase (ACBL) producing E. coli in livestock and poultry population was estimated in the present study along with the antimicrobial resistance among the isolates. A total of 148 (58.2%) E. coli isolates from 254 samples were isolated. The maximum occurrence of E. coli was noted in poultry cloacal swab samples (78.4%) followed by goat rectal swab samples (77.6%), buff alo milk samples (48.4%), and minimum from cow milk samples (34.7%). The isolates showed highest resistance against amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, however, sample wise 95%, 90.3%, 80% and 76.9% resistance were recorded in poultry cloacal swab, buffalo milk samples, cow milk samples and in goat rectal swabs, respectively. PCR amplifi cation of AmpC gene was found maximum (98%) in goat rectal swab samples followed by poultry cloacal swab samples (85%), cow milk samples (68%) and 58% from buff alo milk samples. Keywords: AmpC, Antimicrobial resistance, beta lactamase, Escherichia coli, occurrence
