ABSTRACT
Brucellosis is a global alarming zoonosis creating a direct impact on a nation’s economy. It is equally a great concern of animal as well as public health. It has the potential to destroy the reproductive ability and productivity of an animal. Also, the occupationally exposed personals are at constant risk and hence consist of the vulnerable group. There remain various species of Brucella organisms with several biovars affecting specific hosts. Brucella melitensis is an agent that mostly affects humans and goats and Brucella ovis concerns with sheep. The disease is characterized by late-term abortion, infertility, and reduced milk yield. Diagnosis can be made by serological, cultural, and molecular approaches. Consumption of undercooked meat or unpasteurized or poorly pasteurized milk and its products can easily make passage to the pathogens to get entry into the susceptible hosts. Immunization thus proved to be the best preventive method of brucellosis. Keywords: B. melitensis, bovis, brucellosis, cultural methods, goat, serological tests, sheep
