ABSTRACT

The present study was undertaken to monitor the residue levels of cyclodiene group of insecticide residues, viz., endosulfan, dieldrin, aldrin, chlordane and heptachlor in different body tissues like fat, muscle, liver and kidney of goats. The samples were extracted by Soxhlet apparatus in hexane-acetone mixture and the partitioning was done with hexane. Clean up was done by column chromatography using silica gel. Estimation of residues was done by Gas Liquid Chromatography. Mean dieldrin residues were recorded as 0.045, 0.024 and 0.014 mg kg⁻¹ in fat, muscle and liver. Similarly, mean residue levels of endosulfan was measured as 0.103, 0.093, 0.091 and 0.085 mg kg⁻¹ in fat, muscle, liver and kidney, respectively. Mean residue levels of heptachlor were 0.020, 0.004, 0.002 and 0.003 mg kg⁻¹ in fat, muscle, liver and kidney, respectively. Aldrin and chlordane residues were not detected in any tissue samples.
