ABSTRACT

Three enterotoxigenic strains of Salmonella, viz., Salmonella Typhimurium (DT096 and DT003) and S. Virchow (PT33) were cultured in presence or absence of norepinephrine in conditioned media. Two conditioned media containing bovine and pig serum were used. Supplementation of media with norepinephrine (5 × 10⁻⁵ mol/ml of media) resulted in 7–8-fold increase in growth of test organisms as compared to controls. Growth of organisms was more in medium containing bovine serum than pig serum. Norepinephrine was found to increase the Stn production of Salmonella manifold as compared to control.
