ABSTRACT
The present study was undertaken to know the prevalence of hydatid disease in animals in Mathura area. Out of 154 cases, 32 (20.7%) revealed the presence of hydatid cyst in various visceral organs, of which 16 (10.3%) were from Hariana cattle, 6 (3.8%) buffalo, 4 (2.5%) Jamunapari goat, 2 (1.2%) Beetal goat, 3 (1.9%) Muzaffarnagri sheep and 1 (0.6%) Marwari sheep. Species-wise, the prevalence rate of hydatid cyst was 38% in cattle, 19.3% in buffalo, 28.5% in sheep and 9.5% in goat. Mostly, the hydatid disease affected animals were aged and had a history of weakness and malnutrition. In 20 (62.5%) cases, cysts were present in both lung and liver, whereas 5 (15.6%) cases had cysts in lungs, liver and spleen, 4 (12.5%) cases in lungs, liver, spleen and kidney, 2 (6.2%) cases in liver only and 1 (3.5%) case in liver and heart muscles.
