ABSTRACT
The widespread and injudicious, prophylactic or therapeutic, use of antimicrobials in treatment of dairy animals, especially those suffering from mastitis, has led to the excretion of the residues of these drugs in milk. Residues of certain antimicrobials can persist for prolonged periods, thus causing a public health hazard. Out of 94 raw milk samples analyzed, 23 (24.47%) gave a distinct zone of inhibition and were recorded positive for the presence of antimicrobial residues. It indicates indiscriminate use of antimicrobial drugs.
