ABSTRACT

Brucellosis is a disease of both economic and public health significance. Most Brucella control and eradication programmes rely on the assessment of the antibody by various serological tests. In this study, the seroprevalence of brucellosis in cows and buffaloes in various regions of Gorakhpur district was studied using standard tube agglutination test (STAT) and indirect- enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (I-ELISA) to generate an epidemiological data on seroprevalence of brucellosis in Gorakhpur. The blood sera samples of 579 cows and 407 buffaloes were collected from various regions of Gorakhpur. By STAT, 1.55% cows and 1.97% buffaloes were Brucella positive (had a titre of 1:40 or above) while I-ELISA showed 3.11% and 4.18%, cows and buffaloes to be positive, respectively.
