ABSTRACT

Brucellosis is an important zoonotic disease with serious public health implications resulting in huge economic loss all over the world. Brucella melitensis being the most important cause of human brucellosis, four types of antigen viz., soluble antigen (BmSA), hot saline extract (HSE), protein rich fraction ((PRF) and brucellin were prepared and subjected to Western blot analysis. The study revealed a number of peptide bands ranging from molecular weight 43 to 13 kDa, of which the lower molecular weight peptide especially 13 kDa was found the most immunodominant and common in antigen preparations studied.

Key words: Brucella antigens, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting
