ABSTRACT
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was applied on 23 culture isolates of Mycobacterium bovis and M. tuberculosis obtained from human and animal source around Kolkata region in India with the objective to study whether esat-6 is found in all virulent natural strains of mycobacteria prevalent in India. All the isolated Mycobacterium cultures from this study along with the available laboratory isolates were characterized by culture and biochemical along with species specific PCR for confirmation. Results showed that all the strains of mycobacteria used in this study were found to be esat-6 positive.Keywords: Esat-6, Indian, Mycobacterium and PCR
