Salmonellosis in Apparently Healthy Dogs
Page No. : 37-39
ABSTRACT
A cross sectional study on the prevalence of salmonellosis in apparently healthy dogs was carried out in and around Bareilly. The rectal swabs and blood were collected from 250 dogs and processed for isolation of Salmonella. Two different serotypes of Salmonella were isolated viz., S. Typhimurium [4, 5, 12; i; 1,2) from two blood samples and S. Weltevreden [3,10; r; z6] from one faecal swab with a positivity of 0.8 and 0.4 %, respectively. The isolates were tested for their in vitro drug sensitivity, which revealed that growth of all three isolates was inhibited by amikacin, amoxyclav, ampicillin, cloxacillin, ceftriaxone, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacine, co-trimoxazole, gentamicin, imipenem, kanamycin, netillin, norfloxacin, ofloxacilin, streptomycin, trimethoprim, whereas ampicillin, cefoperazone, ceftazidime, cephotaxime, doxycycline, nitrofurantoin, sulphamethizole had no antibacterial activity on any of the three isolates. Keywords: Dog, drug sensitivity, Salmonella spp.
