ABSTRACT

An episode of gastrointestinal illness due to consumption of contaminated food in a fast food restaurant was reported. Victims developed symptoms of vomition 3 h after the consumption of food. The causative agent of this food poisoning outbreak was identified as Bacillus cereus. The isolates were grouped under biotype-2 as per the sugar fermentation pattern. The isolates were found moderately sensitive to streptomycin, tetracycline, erythromycin and chloramphenicol but resistant to penicillin, ampicillin, gentamicin, cephalexin, ciprofloxacin, nalidixic acid and norfloxacin.
