Antibiotic Sensitivity Patterns of Listeria Isolates from Spontaneous Abortion Cases
Page No. : 65-68
ABSTRACT
The present investigation was undertaken to study the antibiotic sensitivity patterns of 22 and 10 Listeria isolates recovered from cases of spontaneous abortions in animals and women, respectively. The antibiogram revealed the maximum susceptibility for ampicillin, amikacin, ofloxacin, gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, penicillin-G and norfloxacin, whereas the maximum resistance was recorded against chloramphenicol, tetracycline, ceftazidime, fusidic acid, cephalothin, amoxycillin and cloxacillin. Thus, in the treatment of listeriosis, ampicillin or amoxycillin together with gentamicin is the primary choice of therapy but tetracycline and chloramphenicol are not suitable. Keywords: Antibiotic sensitivity, Listeria, spontaneous abortions
