ABSTRACT
A leopard died of heartworm infection in Buxa Tiger Reserve (BTR), located in the foothills of the great Himalayan range, West Bengal, India. On post-mortem examination of the young leopard, a total of eighteen (18) Dirofilaria immitis adult worms of both sexes were recovered from the heart. All the worms were recovered from the right half of the heart, mainly from the right ventricle. This is the first case of dirofilariosis from a wild leopard (Panthera pardus) in India.Keywords: Dirofilaria immitis, heartworm, India, leopard
