ABSTRACT
Studies on the seroprevalence of JE in pigs in Haryana revealed that out of 163 pigs, 18 (11%) were positive for JE antibodies by haemagglutination inhibition and serum neutralization tests. The prevalence was higher in the rice cultivating districts of Kurukshetra (43.8%), Ambala (10.7%), Karnal (7.7%) and Yamunanagar (7.1%) in comparison to that in the non-rice growing Hisar district (3.7%). The study indicated that JE virus is circulating in the porcine population of north-eastern Haryana which may pose a potential threat to human population.Keywords: Japanese encephalitis, pig, prevalence, seroprevalence
