ABSTRACT

The present study evaluated the efficacy of recombinant leptospiral lipoprotein LigB (rLigB) as an antigen in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to differentiate between dogs vaccinated against leptospirosis and those that are naturally infected. A total of 30 sera collected from dogs vaccinated against leptospirosis with microscopic agglutination titres ranging between 200 to 800 and 50 sera samples from dogs suspected of having leptospirosis were subjected to rLigB antigen ELISA. The sera from vaccinated dogs were found to be negative in rLigB antigen ELISA and in immunoblot studies, whereas sera from infected animals gave positive results. Thus, the use of rLigB antigen ELISA could be a useful diagnostic agent to differentiate the anti-leptospiral antibody in serum due to vaccination and natural infection.
