Standardization of Gas Chromatography for Detection of Organochlorine Residues in Chicken Egg

ABSTRACT

In the present study, gas chromatography (GC) was standardized for simultaneous detection of selected organochlorine pesticide residues viz., o,p’-DDE, p,p’-DDE, o,p’-DDD, p,p’-DDD, p,p’-DDT, α-HCH, β-HCH, γ-HCH, δ-HCH, and α-endosulphan in whole chicken egg samples with electron capture detector (ECD). All the egg samples were extracted and cleaned-up as per AOAC method No 970.52 and the final elute was subjected to GC-ECD for detection and quantification of organochlorine residues. The recovery for different isomers ranged between 53.26% (α-HCH) and 104.39% (p,p’ DDE). The limit of detection and limit of quantitation for the analytes were found in the range of 0.008 to 0.012 ng/g and 0.025 to 0.036 ng/g, respectively. The system precision was found to be less than 2.295% for area and less than 0.006% for retention time.
