Plasmid Profile of Salmonella enterica Weltevreden Isolates of Lizard and Goat Origin

ABSTRACT

A total of twenty isolates of Salmonella enterica Weltevreden of lizard and goat origin were studied for their plasmid profile, pathogenicity and the antibiotic resistance. Of the sixteen isolates of lizard origin, 8 isolates showed presence of only one plasmid of 35.8 MDa, while 7 and 1 isolates showed the presence of two plasmids (35.8 MDa and 5.19 MDa.) and three plasmids (35.8 MDa, 5.19 MDa and 3.39 MDa), respectively. In goat isolates, only single plasmid of 35.8 MDa was seen.The pathogenicity and the antibiotic resistance was not directly related to the distribution of plasmid rather the one 35.8 MDa plasmid was consistent in all the isolates irrespective of host and appears important in the virulence mediation in S. Weltevreden.
