Influence of Mastiguard (TANUVAS) Practice on the Somatic Cell Count (SCC) among Dairy Cattle in Tiruchirappalli District, Tamil Nadu, India

ABSTRACT
Mastiguard is a product of Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) having Teat protect spray and TANUCHECK kit. This study has conducted at the fi eld level and taken up with 60 high yielding dairy cattle of 6 dairy farms of Tiruchirappalli district. Twenty seven out of 60 animals were shown as positive for somatic cell count (SCC). Teat protect spray was applied after milking in all animals for a period of six weeks. The average SCC values on 0 day of trial was 3.51±0.29 X 105 somatic cells/ml and reduced at the end of the trial as 0.07±0.05 X 105 somatic cells/ml. After the 6 weeks’ period only 2 animals showed positive for SCC and no new animal found positive for somatic cell count. The average milk production of animals having SCC on 0 day of treatment was 10.57±2.03 l and it has been increased to 12.80±2.03 l after the Teat protect spray.Key words: Mastiguard, Teat Protect, TANUCHECK kit, SCC, Subclinical mastitis
