Comparative study on seroepidemiology of bovine leptospirosis by microagglutination test (MAT) and recombinant LipL32 ELISA

ABSTRACT

The efficacy of recombinant leptospiral lipoprotein 32 (rLipL32) as an antigen was evaluated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for serodiagnosis of bovine leptospirosis. The rLipL32 ELISA results were compared with microscopic agglutination test (MAT). A total of 515 bovine sera samples were tested and a true prevalence of 15.92% was recorded. The relative sensitivity, specificity, predictive value of positive and negative test of ELISA as compared to the standard test, MAT, was calculated, which were 100%, 92.92%, 72.56% and 100%, respectively. The concordance percentage between MAT and ELISA was 94.95%. The kappa statistics also showed a perfect agreement between MAT and ELISA. The findings of the present study suggest that rLipL32 ELISA could be used as a serodiagnostic test for bovine leptospirosis.
