Occurrence of Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus from Bovine Suffering with Mastitis and their Antimicrobial Susceptibility
Page No. : 14-18
ABSTRACT
The study was planned for identifi cation and characterization of Staphylococcus isolated from bovine mastitic animals. Out of 200 samples collected 173 isolates were biochemically confi rmed and 60.69% isolates were found coagulase positive (CoPS) whereas 39.31% of isolates were identifi ed as coagulase negative staphylococci (CoNS). Molecular identifi cation detected 56.64% isolates as S. aureus with coagulase activity. The antibiogram study of isolates reveals high resistance to oxacillin (62.42%), cefoxitin (53.76%), rifampicin (47.4%) and erythromycin (38.15) while moderate resistance against gentamycin (31.79%) and clindamycin (29.48%) and low resistance against ciprofl oxacin (13.29%), teicoplanin (7.32%) and tetracycline (1.73%).Keywords: Antibiotic resistance, CoNS, CoPS, mastitis, staphylococcus
